Do you find your mind wandering from place to place?
—September 15, 2021
Have you ever noticed the dialogue that goes on inside our brains? My mind wanders all the time. It is as if my thoughts are playing a "cat and mouse" game in my head! Sometimes it really frustrates me, because I am trying to concentrate on one thing and all of a sudden, I am thinking about things such as: "I need to water the plants tomorrow."
Even when I am trying to meditate, my thoughts run away from me, and I have to go back to concentrating on my breathing.
There is nothing wrong with these games our minds play on us. After all, we are living beings, and our brains are incredibly powerful and beautiful tools we have to inspire our imaginations!
What if we could control our running thoughts, especially the ones that distract us from the present moment and can sometimes make us feel anxious or depressed?
This is where positive affirmations come to our rescue! They can be simple sentences, a word, or a breath, that can help us overcome wandering minds or negative thoughts.
By repeating affirmations routinely, we can train our brains to empower us to achieve the goals we wish to accomplish, and in time, they can positively change our mindsets and our lives.
I have been trying to use positive affirmations in my daily life for a while now. It does not always work, of course, because, as I mentioned before, our minds are very powerful, and changing our thought processes takes time.
One of the most crucial elements for positive affirmations to really work is to believe in those positive affirmations and to trust that they will help us feel strong enough to create the best lives we want for ourselves. All of this takes work, but it is so worth it.
So, next time you find your mind wandering, try to focus on a positive affirmation or on slowing down your breath. Eventually, these simple additions to our daily lives will become routine. By focusing on these changes, our brains, bodies, and our lives will be on the right track to create and Design a Good Life!

I love September weather
I love when the weather starts to cool down, and we need a sweater in the evenings! September really gives me a sense of coziness and makes me want to drink tea and eat scones--I used to go to a lovely tea house, back in my home country, Portugal. 😉
The last harvest of the summer vegetables, the figs on our fig tree are ready to be eaten, some of the leaves on the trees in our backyard are already changing into beautiful rust and gold colors, the birds are busy eating from the feeders--these are just a few things that remind me that one of my favorite seasons, Fall, is almost here!
It is time to start making our homes cozy, warm, and comfortable. A simple way to create this environment in our homes is to add simple touches throughout, such as blankets and pillows in warm colors and fuzzy textures.
I have put together a few ideas to inspire you to create your own cozy spaces. I hope you enjoy these selections, and if so, you might want to shop for them! Take a look:

My book recommendation for this week
One of my favorite books of all time!
"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks"
The story is written by Rebecca Skloot. It describes the story of a young African American woman who died of cervical cancer--her name was Henrietta Lacks. It goes on to relate how, without Henrietta's knowledge or consent, her doctor took a sample of her cancerous tissue to grow in the lab. Subsequently, the cells of this one sample grew into millions of cells and eventually became one of the most important tools for modern science. These are known as "HeLa cells."
These cells are used all over the world and have been used in the development of the polio vaccine, the study of how viruses and cancer cells work, gene mapping, infertility, and many more scientific discoveries.
This is a fascinating true story, one that the whole world should know about. I am sure you will love this book as much as did, in fact, I have read it three times now!
Get your favorite beverage ready and start reading this incredible book! ❤️
